Adding Accounting Periods

Use the Manage Accounting Period Dates window to add new accounting periods. You can add new periods one at a time following the last created period. If you use monthly accounting periods, agrē automatically creates new periods and fiscal years as you create new postings.

When adding a new accounting period, it’s important to remember that the fiscal year must always be the last day of the last accounting period. Any changes made to the fiscal year end of one period automatically changes the fiscal year for all of the accounting periods from that period forward. The fiscal year of past periods remains unchanged.

You cannot add accounting periods in-between existing periods (no overlapping), and gaps between periods are not permitted.

To add an accounting period

Navigate to General Ledger > Manage > Accounting Period Dates.
The Accounting Period Dates window opens.

Click Add.
The Add Next Accounting Period window opens.

Review the setting for existing accounting periods (it's at the bottom of the window since this setting won't change often, or more likely not at all).
Monthly requires that a fiscal period start on the first of the month and end on the last day of the month.
Custom allows you to define your own accounting periods.

The Start Date defaults to the day after the last accounting period ended and cannot be edited.

In the End Date box, confirm the default (or change the fiscal period end date) for the new accounting period.
The date that automatically appears is based on existing accounting periods.

If the fiscal period end date is the same as the fiscal year end date, the Fiscal Year End? box is automatically selected.

For Monthly period dates, click Change Default Fiscal Year End if you want to change the fiscal year end.
Any changes you make to the fiscal year end automatically changes the fiscal year end for all accounting periods from the current date forward.

For Custom period dates, check or uncheck Fiscal Year End? if you want to change the fiscal year end for this year.

Click Save.

Tip

To easily create additional periods based on the one you just created, click Save repeatedly until all the required periods are created.
