Reopening Accounting Periods

When you reopen a closed period, all the following periods reopen automatically. You can reopen any closed accounting period provided that it isn’t in a closed fiscal year. If the period that you want to reopen is in a closed fiscal year, you must first reopen the fiscal year before you can reopen the accounting period.

Having the option to temporarily close an accounting period provides you with the opportunity to ensure that no further postings are made to that period (except those made by the cost cascade, for example when an inventory receipt is billed and estimated COGS postings in a closed period are updated with the actual cost).

Tip

There is a config option that can be turned on by Tronia that will prevent ALL postings to closed periods (even ones made by the cost cascade). Postings would be dated as of the first day of the first open period.

When an accounting period is reopened, any postings that took place while the accounting period was closed will remain dated in the period to which they were originally posted.

To reopen an accounting period

Navigate to General Ledger > Close an Accounting Period.
The Close an Accounting Period window opens.

In the Fiscal Accounting Period list, select the accounting period to reopen and then click Reopen Period.
agrē automatically opens all periods following the accounting period that is reopened as well.
